1. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to keep you informed and run the platform:

• Contact details you give us — email address, and optionally your phone number and ZIP code.
• Account & membership data — your name (if provided), home state, membership tier, and points/engagement earned in the member area.
• Consent records — for every opt-in we store the exact consent language shown to you, the channels you agreed to (email and/or SMS, tracked separately), plus the date, time, and IP address of your consent.
• Engagement signals — which officials, races, and issues you view, so we can send relevant, local information.
• Payment information — paid memberships are processed by Stripe. We receive a confirmation and subscription status; we never see or store your full card number.
• Technical data — basic log data such as browser type and approximate location, used for security and analytics.

2. How we use your information

• Send the updates, ballot information, and reminders you asked for.
• Operate your account, membership, and the gated member area.
• Process and manage paid memberships through Stripe.
• Understand engagement so local information reaches the right neighbors.
• Protect the platform, prevent abuse, and comply with the law.

3. Communications & consent

Email and text (SMS) consent are unbundled — you choose each one separately, and neither is a condition of any purchase or service.

Email: every message includes an unsubscribe link. SMS: message and data rates may apply; reply STOP to opt out at any time or HELP for help. We honor opt-outs promptly and keep an audit trail of your choices.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

• Service providers who help us operate — for example Stripe (payments) and our email/SMS delivery providers — under contracts that limit their use of your data.
• Authorities when required by law, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the platform.
• A successor entity in the event of a merger or reorganization, subject to this policy.

5. Cookies & analytics

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in and limited analytics to understand how the site is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

6. Your privacy rights

You can request a copy of your data, correct it, or ask us to delete it at any time from your member settings or by contacting us. Depending on where you live (including under California's CCPA/CPRA), you may also limit sharing.

• Access & portability — export the data we hold about you.
• Deletion — ask us to erase your data.
• Do Not Sell or Share — record a CCPA/CPRA opt-out (we already don't sell your data).

7. Retention & security

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law, then delete or de-identify it. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including encrypted transport and access controls, but no system is perfectly secure.

8. Children

The platform is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect their personal information.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform grows. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date.
